How does sound take form? In Sound Body, I translate the act of listening into visual expression—shapes emerge from sound, each carrying a distinct presence. These “sound bodies” exist independently yet can be reassembled, much like musical notes forming a melody. The curves, spikes, and lines mirror the auditory experience, resonating with the way we intuitively associate shapes with sounds, as seen in the Bouba/Kiki effect.
Some elements in these works remain movable, capturing the fluidity of sound and time. In the Experimental Music Series, I explore how sound is not just heard but seen—transforming auditory perception into a tactile, visual rhythm.

Experimental
The Experimental Music Series embraces unpredictability through an abstract, ambiguous, and intuitive creative process. Without a clear purpose, it focuses on the subtle contours of shapes and the flow of colors, allowing pure emotion to guide the relationships between forms.
Inspired by Sound Body, this series explores offcuts from wooden boards—fragments that capture the spaces between shapes and their edges. Unlike Sound Body, which emphasizes tangible forms, Experimental Music arranges visual symbols, treating each piece as an independent fragment to create dynamic spatial compositions.

Variation
The Variation series explores the space between shapes and colors, beginning with a black-and-white base resembling piano keys. Scattered forms and colors capture the movement of music, while “variation” reflects the transformation of shapes and colors within a structured composition. Focusing on the flatness of painting, this series rethinks the interaction between form, space, and sound. As music flows, shapes and colors shift, while light and shadow create a dialogue between reality and illusion, expanding the possibilities of two-dimensional space.

Nature Sound Body
Created during a one-month residency at the Shimen Sculpture Center in fall 2022, Nature Sound Body explores the connection between nature and sound. Inspired by the surrounding environment, the rare absence of human noise allowed for a pure and immersive sensory experience.
Unlike the flat compositions of the Sound Body series, this work introduces three-dimensional forms placed on pedestals, encouraging viewers to explore from multiple angles. Shapes are drawn from natural elements—mountains, drifting clouds, and the playful movements of tadpoles by the pond.
